Unsubscribe and opt-out

How contacts opt out, and what that changes in your account.

Share article

A contact can stop receiving messages at any time. Furcata records that on the contact and refuses further sends, so an opt-out is honoured across every service.

How a contact opts out

  • By replying STOP to a message.
  • By using the unsubscribe link in a message.

Outbound compliance text tells recipients how to opt out and how to get help, and notes that message and data rates may apply. A message sent with a direct link carries the unsubscribe link itself.

Unsubscribe a contact yourself

  1. Open the conversation

Go to Conversations and find the thread with that contact.

  2. Swipe to unsubscribe

Swipe the conversation from left to right to unsubscribe the contact. Swiping the other way archives the conversation instead.

What changes afterwards

  • The contact keeps their record and their history.
  • The conversation is archived as part of the unsubscribe.
  • The composer is replaced by a notice that the contact will not receive messages.
  • The contact is skipped by campaigns rather than causing a failed send.

Resubscribing

A contact who unsubscribed by text can start receiving messages again by replying START. Until they do, sends to them remain blocked.

Do not work around an opt-out

An opt-out is a request to stop. Re-adding the same person under a different record, or sending from another number, defeats the request and the compliance text that promised to honour it.
