Templates

Write, test and reuse the messages a service sends.

A template holds the message text and any media for one kind of send. Templates belong to a service, so a campaign sends the templates you have prepared for it.

Create a template

  1. Open the service

Open the service and make sure editing is enabled for it.

  2. Open the template list

Go to the service template list to see every template it already has.

  3. Add a template

Use Add SMS to create a text template, or Add Robocall to create a voice template. The new template opens in the editor.

What you can edit

  • Message Text — the body of the message.
  • Media — attachments that turn an SMS into an MMS.
  • Blocks — structured content used by the message.
  • Automation Context — the text used to match an incoming message.

The editor also shows a Review section and gives you delete and test-send controls, so you can check a template without leaving it.

Send a test message

  1. Choose who receives it

From the template, select the contacts the test should go to.

  2. Send the test

Use the Send Test Message action. Your previous selection is kept, so you can send the same test again without picking contacts a second time.

Length limits

Messages are measured in units. An SMS is split into segments as it grows, and media changes how many units are allowed.

  • A message without media allows up to 3 units.
  • A message with media allows up to 10 units.

When a template exceeds its allowance, the length check fails and the editor warns you before the message is used. The editor also warns about empty content, an over-length message, an invalid slug and an empty call.

Every unit is charged

A message that runs over one segment is still one message, but it consumes more units. Check the length warning before you schedule a campaign so the size of the send does not surprise you.
