Connecting a Shopify store lets Furcata react to your customers' order activity automatically, so shipping confirmations and follow-ups go out without anyone copying and pasting.
Prerequisites
- A Furcata account with a messaging service that is active.
- A contact list that already contains your customers, or a workflow that creates them.
- Administrator access to the Shopify store you want to connect.
Furcata accepts four store events. Anything else your store emits is ignored.
- Checkout created — a shopper has started checkout.
- Checkout updated — the shopper changed something mid-checkout.
- Order fulfilled — you have shipped or handed over the order.
- Order updated — the order itself changed after it was placed.
How deliveries are secured
Every request from Shopify is signed. Furcata verifies that signature before doing anything else, so a request that did not come from your store is discarded rather than acted on.
Deliveries from a single store are also rate limited. If your store produces a burst of events, Furcata will throttle them rather than process them all at once.
Opted-out contacts are skipped
Furcata checks opt-out state before sending. A customer who has replied STOP will not receive a message triggered by a Shopify event, no matter what happens in the store.
Matching Shopify customers to Furcata contacts
Contacts are identified by phone number. To get reliable matching, make sure the phone numbers you hold in Shopify are stored in international format, including the country code.
When Furcata receives an event it looks up the matching contact. If the number is missing or is not a valid format, that event is skipped rather than guessed at.
Send a message when an order is fulfilled
Create the contact
If the customer is new to Furcata, create them first. The phone number is the identifier, so it must be correct.
{ "phone": "+15555550100", "firstName": "Alex", "lastName": "Morgan", "language": "en", "note": "Shopify customer" }Send the message
Send to that contact with a template of your own choosing. Keep the copy short and tell the customer what happens next.
{ "recipients": ["+15555550100"], "body": "Hi Alex, your order has shipped. Track it any time from your account page.", "type": "sms" }Make it repeatable
Add an idempotency key so that a retry of the same logical send does not produce a duplicate message.
Idempotency-Key: 8f14e45fceea167a
Keep your volume in mind
A busy store can produce a lot of events. If you are sending on every event, check your daily messaging volume and your plan capacity before you switch it on for real.
Set up the connection
The integration is configured from the Furcata app. See the integrations page for the current status of the Shopify connection.
