A number is what you send from and receive on. Numbers belong to the account, so everyone with access to the account can see the numbers it holds.
Phone Numbers is restricted to account owners and admins, and acquiring a number is restricted in the same way.
Acquire a number
Open Phone Numbers
Open the account and go to Phone Numbers to see the numbers you already have.
Start the acquisition
Use the add action to open the number acquisition flow.
Choose the type
Pick the Type of number you want. Local and national numbers are tied to an area, toll-free numbers are not, and mobile and short code numbers are allocated differently again.
Narrow the search
Choose the Distance, and enter or select an Area Code if you want a number from a particular place. Results update to match.
Purchase
Review the numbers returned and purchase the one you want.
What the list shows
- Type — how the number is allocated.
- Provider — which provider supplies the number.
- Area Code and Area — where the number belongs.
- Country.
- Used Last — when the number was last used.
- Date Created — when the number was acquired.
A number is either active or removed.
Remove a number
Open the number
Find the number in the Phone Numbers list.
Remove it
Use the Remove action and confirm. The number is removed from the account rather than being deleted silently.
Choosing between local and toll-free
A local or national number is tied to an area, which suits campaigns aimed at a particular place. A toll-free number is not tied to an area, which suits a national audience that should not be anchored to one city.
Check your numbers before a campaign
A service needs a number to send from. If the numbers the account holds have been removed or were never acquired, the campaign has nothing to send with, so confirm your numbers before scheduling a large send.
