AI voice agents

Answer calls, hold real conversations, capture structured answers and hand off to a human.

An AI voice agent answers your calls, holds a real conversation, and leaves you with a structured record of what was said. This page covers what the agent does and how to set one up well.

  • Answers and greets the caller in the right language.
  • Answers questions using the business knowledge base you provide.
  • Asks your interview questions in order and captures the answers.
  • Updates the contact record with what it learned.
  • Transfers the caller to a human when that is the right outcome.

Configure an agent end to end

  1. Choose a voice

Pick the persona the agent will speak with. Male, female and neutral voices are available. The voice is a matter of fit with your brand, not capability.

  2. Write the greeting

The greeting is the first thing a caller hears, and the agent speaks first. Say who is calling and why in one or two short sentences.

  3. Describe how the agent should behave

The system instruction is where you set the agent's manner and its boundaries — what it should always do, and what it should never do.

  4. Add your knowledge

Give the agent the documents it needs to answer real questions: opening hours, policies, service descriptions, anything a caller is likely to ask about.

  5. Add interview questions

List the questions you want answered on every call, in the order they should be asked. These become structured data rather than a transcript you have to read.

  6. Set business hours

Define the days and the start and end hours that count as open, so the agent knows when your organisation is available.

  7. Add transfer destinations

Give the agent the numbers it may hand a caller to, and label each one so the agent can choose sensibly.

  8. Set a call duration limit

Decide how long a call may run. The default is ten minutes, and the caller is warned shortly before the limit is reached.

  9. Test with your own number

Call the agent yourself. Try interrupting it, asking something outside your knowledge base, switching language, and asking for a human.

Getting the most from a knowledge base

The knowledge base is what separates an agent that is useful from one that guesses. Keep it accurate, keep it current, and remove anything that has been superseded.

Write it the way you would brief a new colleague: plain statements, no jargon, no internal shorthand. If a document contains two conflicting answers, the agent may pick either.

The agent only does what your role allows

An agent acts within the permissions of the Furcata user it runs as. It cannot reach further than that user can, and buying phone numbers deliberately stays a manual step in the app rather than something an agent can do.

After the call

Recordings and post-call analytics are available, so you can review how a call actually went rather than rely on a summary. Voicemail messages left by callers are transcribed, which means a missed call still shows up as readable text in the conversation.

Tell callers they are speaking to an agent

Be straightforward with callers about what they are talking to, and make it easy to reach a person. In many places this is also a legal requirement.
